TGIFF: Tea For Two

I've had the big pattern launch plus giveaway (now closed), now for the juicy behind-the-scenes detail of the next baby quilt ticked off my FAL list!

As I mentioned on Sunday, this pattern was inspired by a manhole cover pattern here in Chiba. Those who know me, know I love a good challenge to work out puzzles, and this was a good one to work out the ratios and then how to construct the actual quilt! It's based on 4 different block designs. I designed it from the very beginning knowing that I wanted to use my stash of Art Gallery Fabrics for it.

I've used a few different ranges - Coquette, Nature Elements, Oval Elements, and Bohemian Soul. I am so in love Art Gallery Fabrics! It's so soft to the touch, and so smooth to quilt - noticeably reduces the drag. And so snuggly! I simply straight line quilted around each pair of Ts to keep it light for my potential niece - it's for my sister, who is due in a few weeks and doesn't know what she's having. If they have a girl, they get it. If they have a boy, well, this goes in the cupboard for the next girl baby in the family.

For the back, I pieced a large T from Nature Elements in Cyclamen and Endless Dream in 2 colorways from Bohemian Soul. Very bold, but I'm learning to step outside my safe little box!

This is the second quilt I've hand bound, and yep, I'm a convert. There, you happy?! Nothing like snuggling under it at night. I was tossing up between 2 Oval Elements - this light pink and a darker pink. I decided this time to go for a softer colour.

It'll be hard to let go of this pretty little thing, but I know it will be well loved by whatever niece ends up with it. And I'll just have to make an AGF quilt for me!

Another FAL done!

  2. When I visited Japan, I took a photo of one of the manhole covers because it was THAT pretty. I think it's the only manhole cover I've ever photographed. Ah! Japan. I love you so. :)

  7. Lovely quilt. I'm thinking you need to design patterns if your brain can figure out those geometrics so well!

  11. The quilt is lovely. I'm sure your sister, or whomever receives it, will love it. I would like to see a picture of the manhole cover that your inspiration came from. I've recently been converted to machine binding! I learnt how to hand bind, and then last year discovered how to machine bind, which I do for everything now because I just don't have time to hand bind.
